Medicare with Aetna

Question
QUESTION: I have Medicare & Aetna Ihavehad major cancer surgery (5hrs) I am receiving Many bills, after Medicare and Aetna has paid do I owe thease charges? I was under the inpression with two ins I would not to pay any extra.

ANSWER: Hi Donald

You did not indicate what Aetna plan you have====an employer retirement plan===a Medigap plan====a Medicare Advantage plan==or a PPO.

So I have to guess which.  What you described usually does not happen if you have original Medicare with a Medigap plan C,for example.

It usually happens when you have a Medical HMO Advantage Plan,  People get them because they look cheaper than the Medigap plans.  However, if you have a major illness or a cronic condition that has a lot of doctor visits, you get hit with co-pays after co-pays, that you are responsible for, and they can get quite expensive.  It sounds like this is your situation.

In that case you should have received a packet that is probably called Certificate of Coverage.  Anf co-pay or other charges should be adressed in there.  Also every October, they should send you a letter showing any changes in the plan coverage and in premium and co-pays.

Hope your health improves.
