Question
I had my routine mammogram at a Cancer Hospital last year - I was sent there because of a problem. After the mammogram, the doctor wanted an ECHO examination, which I had after the mammogram - on the same date. BCBS has always paid for my routine mammograms. They have now put the routine mammogram and ECHO into my deductible because I had the two examinations on the same date - they state in their response to my appeal that "Mammograms performed with another service are subject to your calendar year deductible." I have appealed to Level One with no result. Any recommendations? I am insulted that they would not consider both on the same date - there was no mention about coming back another day for the ECHO - doctor wanted to do the test right then and there. Please advice.
Answer
Hi Melinda!
Perhaps do another appeal with a letter from your Dr stating that your mammogram was your routine one. This may help.
When you appeal any denial the trick is to prove wrong the denial. The more info you can submit to disprove their denial the better chance you have for them to reverse it.
Good Luck!
