Expedited MedicaidFull Medicaid

Question
I was approved for expedited medicaid last month (October 6) and have submitted all necessary information for the full coverage however I have not received full coverage yet and was wondering how long it would take. I am due with my baby any day now and the only reason I signed up was to receive coverage in the hospital, however the expedited care won't provide that. I have called my case worker and she won't return my call and let me know when I will receive it. I live in Ohio and was wondering how long this process usually takes and if I do give birth in a hospital before then will the full coverage (if I ever get it) would cover the cost of the hospital after it has happened? Thank you for your time!

Answer
Hi Kate

The regulations are different in each State, so, I am going to refer you to my counterpart in Ohio. go to 1-800-686-1578, and you will reach the nearest SHIP office to you.  Call them and request to speak to one of their counselors.  They are  trained on Medicaid and may even have a contact with the local Medicaid office,

The coverage is usually retroactive for up to 3 months.  Also you might talk with their office manager at the Medicaid office.  Most States have their case worker's e-mail available on line at the State Medicaid office.  Check them out and if you find it, send an e-mail to the case worker, the office manager and the State office.  That will expedite things.
