Hello I live in Ilinois .. My fiance was in an accident and fractured his L1 vertebrea almost becoming paralized. Has been in the hospital for a week. He has no insurance and is self employeed last year he claimed 2800. We were told that he is ineligible for medicaid due to being self employeed by hospital staff. We are supposed to be married in 2 weeks. If we get married will his medical debt automatically become my debt? I am being told different things and I am so scared. What would you suggest? Are there any other avenues?

Not really sure since this is a legal question not a medical question.
Most hospitals have a "charity care" program where it pays for most of a hospital bill or sometimes all of it. Ask the hospital if they have such a program for those who do not have insurance coverage. If they do not, contact your state to see if they has such programs. I think I would try to figure out a way to get the bills paid.
