Question
My daughter developed a pulmonary embolism at the end of june 2009 . She was 3 weeks in the hospital and almost lost her life.
She will be 23 in oct and our medical insurance (Tricare) stops at that age. She is a college student, but is on disability at the moment for the contiuing care that she needs. Weekly lab work x-rays, medications and visits to specialist. She will need to be on blood thinners for atleast a year with continuous monitoring of her blood levels. Today she was told she needed to see a hemotologist. My question is what options does she have as far as medical insurance? She can not skip a dose of the medications or she will have another embolism asthey have to keep increasing her doses. It still is not under control at this time. We are worried about this and need some help. She still lives at home is in college and at the moment she is unable to work and her dissabily has been extended until the results of the x-ray is back for another 2 weeks.
Thank you for the time
Answer
Hi Deirde
This is really outside of my expertise, however maybe this might help.
Go to benefits.com===enter her information===and it will screen about 400 programs to see if she is eligible for any of them.
You mentioned that she was on disability. If it is Social Security disability and she has been on it long enough she may be eligible for Medicare, Check with them.
She may also be eligible for benefits under the Medicaid regulations in your State.
