I am on disability and my cobra insurance runs out in June. I will be 61 in March. Is there anything new to help me get on Medicare? I desperately need to have insurance coverage and a HIPPA policy would be beyond my income. I heard that Medicare was changed and people could apply starting at 55. Is that so? Need assistance please!

You did not mention the type of disability you have, Was it Social Security disability or under some other program. If it was Social Security, you would be eligible for Medicare after 24 months of receiving SS payments. If you are low income, go to the SS office and request them for a copy of MEDICARE AND YOU 2010. In the center of the back cover is the phone number of the SHIP office closest to you. Call them request to speak with a counselor. The counselor will meet with you and show you your options.
