Question
I was misled when I was "offered" medicare plan B when i went into kidney failure. I now am being hit with huge bills b/c medicare became my primary insurance and the majority of the bills are being filed under plan B. My now secondary ins (empire bcbs) is only paying 20% of the bill. I want to pay for the last 6 months of plan B (retro pay) but medicare is saying NO! Can you help or advise?
Answer
Hi Nancy
There is a lot of missing information in the question, and it is too complicated to be done by e-mail. Therefore I am referring you to my counterpart in your State. Look at the center of the back cover of Medicare and you 2010 that you just received and there will be a number for the nearest SHIP office to you. This is a Medicare counseling program, Give them a a call and request a meeting with a counselor. They will review the situation, and based on the statement that you were misled about Part B, can help with an appeal to straighten out the problem.
You can also go on Medicare.gov and find the number for the SHIP in your State.
