Question
Hi Trisha,
Thank you for reviewing my question. Just interested to know something. I scheduled an an initial consultation with a specialist, but had to re-schedule due to an unforeseen conflict. Unfortunately, I missed the rescheduled appointment (three weeks later) due to additional conflicts. When I contacted their office, the receptionist abruptly told me that this was wasting the physician's time and that a third rescheduling would likely be a long way off. From her tone, it was apparent they were disrespected by me because I missed the appointment. My question is, could my HMO deny me another referral for a different specialist in the same field, seeing as I have the outstanding referral for the first specialist with unused visits? Thank you.
Answer
Hi Alex!
I do not think the HMO cares to much being that it was not used. Most referrals are done electronically now so not much of a big deal.
Dr's get upset since they block at time for a patient and if they can not fill that spot then they lose money and perhaps leave a gap of time where they have nothing to do. Alot of Dr's and I know my Dentist will not allow you to cancel an appointment more than once and if you do they will bill you. Dentist have this problem all the time.
Good Luck!
Tricia
