Approved for SSDI does existing PPO insurance remain my primary and Medicare A & B secondary ins

Question
I recently was approved for SSDI benefits retroactive to March 2007. I have been insured with a United Health Care  PPO under my husbands insurance for 12 years. There are more than 100 employees at his work. I am concerned that if I accept the Medicare Part B I will be forced to make that my primary insurance buy UHC. Can you please tell me if I accept the Medicare Part B and pay the premium will my currently primary insurance  change in any way?

Answer
Hi Carole

As long asyou are on his plan and he is still working, his plan is primary and you do not need part B.

Caution.  Each year, usually in October, employer plans send out a letter to those on the plan informing them of any changes for the next year.  Read that letter carefully.
