Question
QUESTION: I am a Registered Nurse with my own Independent Nursing business. A friend has a sister who is getting out of the hospital next week and will need home nursing care for wound treatment. The sister has Medicaid and I was I told that I would have to bill Medicaid for services performed. How do I bill Medicaid? How soon can I expect to be paid for these services?
ANSWER: Judy,
Are you an approved Medicaid provider? if not, you can't bill.
Unless you're working for an approved provider, which then they would bill for your services and you would get paid from the provider according to your compensation agreement.
Good luck

QUESTION: I do staff-relief at Nursing Homes, Alzheimer's facilities, and Home-care. It doesn't take any license, except my RN. I do have a state (Oregon)business name, for which I pay $50 every other year. Is this what you mean?
Answer
I'm not sure what type of provider you consider yourself to be (other then RN of course), but you need to check with Medicaid and see if your services as that type of provider, are covered by Medicaid. Typically, if you provide homecare services, your business has to be licensed as a homecare provider and there is a detailed accreditation process by the state. Being a RN is not enough qualification to provide services and get reimbursed directly. You may have to work for a provider and get reimbursed as a contractor and they would have to bill for your services.
Good luck.
