state to state transfers of existing medicare/medicaid

Question
I live in Arkansas and have been on SSD since 2001. I have both Medicare & Medicaid. Soon I will need more help with daily living and friends have invited me to share her houses (in MI & MO).

What is involved in transfering my benefits to another state? My SSD income is just over $700.00 pr mo. I cannot risk losing my medical benefits as Rx's alone are over $600.00 pr mo.

Thank you for any information you can give me.

Answer
Hi

This is way too complicated to be done by e-mail.  Call 1-800-224-6330 and you will get the local office of the SHIP program.  These are Medicare trained counselors that can explain the  problems involved in making such moves.  Medicaid can not be transferred because each state has somewhat different regulations, Also there would be the problem of changing plans.  Give them a call and request to meet with one of their counselors experienced in comparing plans.  It will probably take about 2 hours to explain all your options.
