Medicare and Cobra

Question
I have cobra (my husband was fired from his job), in dec. I will have medicare and I am on disability (my husband is not). this is my question...I known medicare will be my primary (this is what I have been told) and Cobra my secondary. My secondary covers gastrobypass surgery I do not think medicare does. If I have this and medicare (being primary) denies as not covered will cobra pay or will they deny because medicare did. I have search high and low for the answer and can not seem to get it. If you could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you so very much

Answer
Hi

If it is not medically necessary, neither will pay.  If the doctor says it is medically necessary,THEN:

If COBRA  pays, Medicare usually will pay the rest.

If COBRA will not pay, then Medicare will not pay any deductible and  will pay 80% of remainder.

If it deemed necessary by one and not the other, the one that deems it necessary will pay their usual coverage amount.
